CIDA announces support for DOT programs in five East African Countries
Digital Opportunity Trust is pleased to announce that it has signed a contribution agreement with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) worth $6.9 million to implement DOT's Youth-Led Enterprise and Development program (Y-LED) in 5 countries in East Africa.
Y-LED will train young African graduates in business and life skills and transform them with the self-confidence to become leaders of change and role models in their communities. Working with DOT, these young leaders will reach 88,000 peers, young African women and men, to lead economic change as they help create new enterprises, raise individual and family incomes and augment access to business development services in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Y-LED builds on DOT's successful ReachUp!, StartUp! and ScaleUp! programs that are reaching thousands of young people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Rwanda and will allow DOT to establish new affiliates in Tanzania and Uganda.
DOT transforms young people (DOT Interns) to become leaders of change as they deliver information and communications technology (ICT) training in their own communities for entrepreneurial, community, educational, and personal development.
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is Canada's lead agency for official development assistance. CIDA's aim is to manage Canada's support and resources effectively and accountably to achieve meaningful, sustainable results and engage in policy development in Canada and internationally, enabling Canada's effort to realize its development objectives.
